Documentary cinematography in New Orleans
Documentary is the work I know best: shooting, recording, and finishing real stories in real places.
I am Ben Sellers, a New Orleans director of photography, camera operator, and sound professional. I shoot documentary and corporate projects, and my credits include work for National Geographic, CNN, Showtime, and Lifetime. I was born and raised in south Louisiana, so I know the people and places that productions come here to film.
What I bring to a documentary
- Director of photography and camera operator for interviews and verite scenes
- Production sound mixing, so picture and audio are captured together
- Drone footage from a licensed pilot
- Sound design and final mix in post
- Local knowledge and crew for productions coming into the area
Documentary credits
- IMPACT: Killer Red Fox (National Geographic): verite, interviews, drone footage
- Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown (CNN): verite scenes, live music, event ambience
- Murder in the Bayou (Showtime): interviews, verite, natural and suburban ambience
- Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up (Lifetime): production sound supervisor and camera operator
- On Va Continuer and The Power of Glove: documentary features, sound design and mix
- The Basin (Reel South, PBS): documentary episode, sound design and mix
One crew member who covers more
Small documentary crews need people who can do several jobs well. I can shoot, record sound, fly a drone, and take the project through sound design and mix.
